Bedwell Lake Trail

A day hike into Bedwell Lake was the only thing we had planned for the weekend. We knew the 600 m elevation gain was ambitious for us, but we gave ourselves lots of time and went slowly (average pace was 28 minutes per kilometer). Justine’s weak knee gave her some trouble on the sections with loose rocks and the big steps, but overall the trail quality was great.

The view

We walked past a dozen campsites that had a great view on the lake. We stopped at the viewpoint where we could see both Bedwell Lake and Baby Bedwell lake, in part because we were hungry and in part because we got turned around.

⚠ There is a sign pointing to both Bedwell lake and the viewpoint that is a little misleading. The viewpoint is up the hill and the trail to Bedwell Lake is a hard right downhill.

The hike itself started in thick forest which thinned out as we gained elevation. Near the top the area was quite boggy with well maintained boardwalks and steps. There were also lots of blueberries along the way (although we didn’t eat any because we weren’t 100% sure they were blueberries at the time).

A tough road to the trail

The road to get into the trailhead was part of the adventure. It was a well-maintained logging road, but it was steep, had loose gravel and had some pretty significant dips. We managed okay with our small car but would have been way less nervous with a vehicle with a little more clearance.

Trail Map

We recorded our hike with the AllTrails map, just to prove how slow we actually went. The full recording is here.
