On the first snowy weekend in January, we spent the night in a yurt at Seek On The Park in Truro, Nova Scotia. We snowshoed from our doorstep to Victoria Park and spent hours by the fire. It was the perfect way to enjoy a winter adventure in one of V’s favourite places.
Truro is Justine’s hometown, so we tend to overlook the adventure opportunities it has to offer. But Seek and Victoria Park definitely deserve a post on this blog, so we are sharing some info below. We’ve also included our pictures from this weekend — Adrien’s first as a Canadian citizen!
Seek On The Park
Seek On The Park provides wilderness accommodation with direct access to Victoria Park. Seek opened in late 2022 they currently five cabins, two yurts and a camping area. Two of the cabins (Spruce and Aspen) have outdoor hot tubs, but there are plans to add more.
We stayed in the Pine Yurt which accommodates two people. It has a queen bed, wood stove, seating area and small kitchenette (fridge, kettle, coffee pot, dishes). There is no bathroom in the yurt, but there is a heated washroom and shower facility 50 meters away. The temperature dropped to -14 degrees the night we were there, but we stayed cozy by keeping the fire going. The floors are definitely cold, so bring slippers! Also, there are is no cooking inside the yurt, so plan accordingly. We cooked outdoors on our camping stove, but there are also several take-out options within a five minute drive. The only thing we found difficult was washing our dishes. For a one-night stay, we didn’t really need to worry about it, but you may need to wash them in the bathroom for a longer stay.
Seek On The Park has direct trail access to Victoria Park where there is an extensive trail system. On site, there is also the “Winding Fern Trail” which is great for a short walk or snowshoe. There is still lots of damage from Hurricane Fiona so parts of the trail are currently blocked, so we weren’t able to check out the tent sites.

Victoria Park and The Railyard
Victoria Park is the true gem of Truro and arguably the entire province of Nova Scotia. It is 3000 hectares in size and has over 50 km in trails. The lower part of the park features two beautiful waterfalls and the upper part of the park has an extensive trail system known as The Railyard.
In the summer, the park is great for walking and mountain biking. In the winter, the groomed trails are perfect for snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and fat biking. Equipment can be rented at Hub Cycle or Bike Monkey, or even through Seek.
The trails are well signed, but there are not many maps, so it can be easy to get lost. The Trail Forks app seems to be the most up to date. We tend to follow Justine’s dad on most of trips! He loves to chat and knows ALL the trails by heart, so keep your eyes peeled for a tall guy with a dog named Bauer.
