Cobequid Trail

The Truro section of the Cobequid Trail is a 10 km long gravel trail in Truro, Nova Scotia. It starts near the centre of town and goes westward to the head of the Bay of Fundy. We typically park “behind the golf course” in a parking lot off of Willow St and go out and back making for a 20 km ride in total. The trail is very flat, but the headwinds off the bay can be challenging at times. Thankfully, they are usually a headwind on the way out and a tailwind on the way back.

The beginning of the trail passes through a wooded area with views of the golf course. After a few kilometers the trail passes under the 102 highway where the trail opens up into the marshlands. Then the views of the Bay of Fundy begin and last for about 5 km. The views are always nice, but sunsets can sometimes be phenomenal. The view also changes depending on the phase of the tide — either from a small stream and mudflats at low tide to a full bay at high tide. There are several picnic tables and benches along this section of the trail that provide great resting locations. There is also an outhouse towards the end of the trail.

The trail provides a great spot to see the tidal bore, but be sure to check the tide times. Another great spot to watch the tidal bore and learn about the phenomenon is the Fundy Discovery Centre. There is also an amazing playground here and several picnic tables making it a great stopping point even if you are just passing through Truro.
